Gov. Paul Patton, at left-center, took up a shovel and helped in breaking ground for the Morehead-Rowan County Airport October 3. To the right of Gov. Patton was Rowan County Judge/Executive Clyde A. Thomas, who was foremost in organizing support for the project, and for whom the new airport will be named. During the event, Gov. Patton presented a check for $200,000 to local officials as part of state government's contribution to the project.

- The Board was advised by Brandstetter Carroll, Architectural Consultant, at the June 2008 Board meeting that the bid package for the new administration and terminal building at the airport will be out in July - a 12-month construction period is estimated following award of a construction contract.
The Board continues to seek external funds for the installation of fueling systems at the airport - estimated to cost $350,000.
- The Board recently finalized the purchase of the equipment from a local (Rowan County) equipment vendor to do its own mowing of the 140 acre airport complex.
To date, over $17 million dollars has been obtained and expended on construction of the Morehead -Rowan County, Clyde A. Thomas, Regional Airport.
The Morehead Utility Plant Board will install for the Airport the water lines to the Airport. Installation of the lines is planned in conjunction with the construction of the new road to the airport (funding of the new road is pending).
James A. Fluty was reelected by the Board as its Chairman for the July 1, 2008-June 30, 2009 period. Ron Jones was reelected Vice Chair and Porter Dailey reelected Secretary/Treasurer.
- The Board has recently approved the expenditure or allocation of funds from its fund balances to acquire equipment and or property for the operation of the airport. Other funds have been earmarked or obligated, to include:
- Mowing equipment - $34,000
- Residence - $50,000
- Water line installation - $80,000
- Admin Bldg equip/Furnishings - $50,000
The Board recently appointed Entran Engineering Infrastructure Solutions, Lexington, KY, as its engineering consultant for future projects. Entran replaces HMB Engineering, Frankfort, KY. HMB provided most engineering consultant services to the Airport Board for the construction of the airport to date but has strategically realigned itself and will no longer consult in the aviation industry.
- The State recently funded for the Airport Board a consultant to develop a business plan. The business plan was developed by R.A. Wiedemann & Associates, Inc. The plan provides a road map to the Board regarding future decisions related to management, funding, development, marketing as well as an overall analysis regarding the local and regional economic impact the airport will have.
